Champagne Jacquart 1992 is a testament to the quality of the vintage

1992 has disappointed a few Champagne collectors back in the early days when the wine was decidedly closed and therefore, seriously underperforming. Many of us drank far too many of it with far too low an expectation. It took three more years for many to lick their wounds before working up the courage to get back to the table and place a bet on the 95s. Lo and behold, the 1992 turned out not only beautifully, it gained remarkable intensity over the years, as well exemplified by this 92 Jacquart Blanc de Blancs. I can’t say that a 100% Chardonnay blend added some horses to the old engine, as Chardonnay often does with age-worthy wines, but the intensity of flavors is staggering. Cristal, Krug and few other blockbusters aside, the 92 Jacquart is one of the biggest Champagnes I have ever confronted myself with. Rarely do I have difficulties finishing a bottle of Champagne over the course of two days, and often one day would suffice thank you very much, but this one took me the better part of 4 days.

1992 Jacquart is for sure a food wine. Any attempt to gulp it down like your lighter-than-air Moet or Tattinger will simply cause one to choke on our utter disrespect for a great wine. And if you will forgive the insanity, try drinking it a bit warmer than usual. Let the wine come out to charm you for a bit. Alas, last time I peeked, there were but 6 bottles left in the old cellar. Oh why does it always have to be so few when you need so many more?
